Michigan State 420 Championship

Summary

Saturday, October 18:

The sailors morning was met with slight drizzle and shifty north winds putting requiring a few early adjustments to keep the course square. After the third race, the course was pulled and moved west to take advantage of a more open part of the lake. The wind speed increased slightly and became a bit more consistent as racing continued. It was a very close race between the top four teams, each of which were trading the scoring lead with the trailers tied up throughout the day. At the conclusion of races, Spring Lake High School had the clear victory with 43 points, but second and third places were still tied up; Grosse Point South and East Grand Rapids each finished with 52 points, and Detroit County Day and Traverse City West each ended with 54 points. Determining the tie-breakers put Grosse Point South in second place and East Grand Rapids in third, forcing Detroit Country Day and Traverse City West into fourth and fifth places respectively.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
