VISA CCS Fleet Regatta

Summary

Saturday, September 6:

Fourteen schools with 18 teams reported to Christchurch School for the first VISA regatta of the season. Even races were W3, odd were W4 to facilitate rotations enabling 6 races in each of A and B divisions. Southwest winds were 6-12mph and seas less than 1 foot on the Rappahannock River. Christchurch teams 1 and 2 took the hometown lead followed by Norfolk Collegiate and Norfolk Academy.

Protests: Race A2 - Boat 8 (Smithfield) v. Boat 9 (Kecoughtan) - Boat 9 came from clear astern, contacted Boat 8 pushing Boat 8 oCS. Boat 9 DSQ, rule 14. Race A2 - Boat 12(HRA) v. Boat 16 (CCS2) - Both on port tack, about 2 boat lengths apart. #16 hailed and tacked and #12 didn't avoid resulting in contact on port stern of boat 16. #16 had completed tach before contact. Boat 12 DSQ, rule 14 Race B5&6 - Boat 7 (CCS) filed for redress. Hiking strap was broken, race committee was notified before race, but there were no replacement parts available. Redress granted. Race B6 - Boat 2(NA2) filed for redress. Jib sheet broke about 1 foot from jib. Redress granted. Race B6 - Boat 4 (NCS2) v. Boat 17 (HRA). Boat 17 did not give room at the mark. Boat 17 DSQ.
