Racing got under way after a short delay in breezy conditions around 18 knots with gusts over 20 knots. Each division completed 3 sets for a total of 6 races each. All the students met the challenging conditions with admirable fortitude. At 1600 the consensus was that the students and the boats were approaching their limits for the conditions and the event was concluded. Congratulations to Grosse Pointe South on their impressive victory.
Many thanks go out to the army of volunteers to help run things on shore as well as the group that manned the RC and chase boats on the water. A special thanks for the Grosse Pointe Youth Nautical Education Foundation for providing lunch to the students, coaches, volunteers and parents. Thank you to the students and coaches who helped pack or deliver boats back to their clubs. Finally thanks to the junior programs and directors for the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, Crescent Sail Yacht Club and Bayview Yacht Club for providing the boats for the event.
