NESSA Great Oaks Qualifier

Summary

Saturday, September 12:

Eight teams traveled to a "new" venue, Sail Black Rock in Bridgeport CT, for the Great Oaks Qualifier. Teams rigged square top mainsail FJ's and sailed out into 3-4kts of breeze for the first four races that slowly built to 6kts of breeze for the final 5 races. The course was college style with a weather offset and a gate at the bottom. Nine races were completed, no breakdowns, no protests were brought to the committee, it was all handled on the water by the sailors doing their circles.

Mental stamina and finding pressure were the keys to the day, congratulations to Xavier for not only doing this consistently during the day but doing it with brothers in the same boat. Also qualifying for the Great Oaks Regatta to represent NESSA in New Orleans were Falmouth HS (ME) and Fairfield Prep.

Thank you to coaches and sailors of Sacred Heart University and Fairfield University for hosting the Great Oaks Qualifier. The fleet of FJ's and RC work was well sorted and we look forward to future NESSA events being held at Sail Black Rock. The post race ice cream cones for competitors were hugely popular and greatly appreciated, thank you Sail Black Rock!

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
