Toms River, NJ Seventeen high school teams, from thirteen different high schools throughout Ocean, Monmouth and Union Counties, met at TRYC to sail in the 2015 OCC Fall Invitational.
Under cloudy skies and just enough drizzle to keep everything wet, the teams cast off around 0930 hrs to begin racing in 9-12 NNW breeze. The pressure was up and down, with oscillating right and left shifts, but the general direction held consistent throughout most of the day so only a few course adjustments were necessary. The rain finally stopped and for a few moments the sky seemed to be clearing, but clouds prevailed as the wind finally went to NE where it stayed for the last set of races.
Twelve races were completed for the day (six A, six B) which each division sailing a W4 then W3 courses each set. Racing finished up at 1430 and the teams returned to shore.
The Ranney School Panthers established and maintained a comfortable lead to end the day in first place with 34 total points. The Southern Rams were in second with 44 points and the Christian Brothers Academy Colts rounded out the top three teams with 58 points. Trophy plaques were awarded by OCC Sailing Club manager Roy Wilkins to the top three teams along with an OCC burgee for the Ranney Panthers.
Thank you to Roy Wilkins for bringing "Sweet Jane" to serve out as the Race Committee boat and running the starts, along with Princeton and Central team reps Bentley Drezner and Charolette Roselli for recording the finishes.
As always, thank you to TRYC and OCC for the use of their facilities and fleet of boats. Also thanks to the sailors and parents who helped the mother-of-the-bride set up chairs for the big Bailey wedding that would follow the regatta, and helping keep up our reputation as good guests at the club.
