Had a great day of sailing at Sheridan Shore Sailing School today. Thanks to all the volunteers that helped out and to the sailors for fair racing.
The Kickoff Classic, hosted by Sheridan Shore Sailing School, was bound to be one of the best high school sailing regattas of the fall. I would like to thank Wilmette Harbor Association and Sheridan Shore Yacht Club for allowing us to use the facilities as our base of operations. I would also like to thank Cameron Bielat for allowing us to use his boat as our race committee boat, and volunteer PRO Chris Lynch and RC Megan Bartley for a perfectly executed regatta. The regatta wouldn't have been possible without a few 420s, and power boats, from Lake Forest Rec, Chicago Yacht Club, MYST and Columbia Yacht Club Sailing School.
Over 150 competitors made up the Seventeen 420 teams, Laser Radials, and Laser Full Rigs. We had teams from all over the Midwest, representing schools from Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota. The Kickoff Classic used the revolutionary two-fleet course; the Z-Trophy. On Saturday we were met with 10-15 knot winds from the North West with 3 foot waves, dropping to 1-3 by Sunday. Despite lumpy conditions on Saturday we were able to get off a 8 races in both 420 and both Laser fleets. Sunday was light wind all day, and racing was eventually cancelled for the day after getting in a few races.
David Winquist from Kettle Moraine HS won the Laser full rigs with 9 points total. Winning the Laser radial class with 17 points was Patrick Schmidt from Catholic Memorial. Second and third places were Owen Patterson from Walter Payton College Prep and Henry Bearrows from Fenwick HS.
Congrats to the Arrowhead Warhawks for winning the 2016 Kick Off Classic over the Minnetonka Skippers, and securing a berth to the Lawrence A White Coast Guard Invitational. The regatta was the perfect “Kickoff” to the fall 2016 racing season!
Thanks to Regatta Chair and MISSA Central VP and Rep Zachary A Hernandez for setting up the regatta. #zarmy

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
