The 2016 "Sail Now, Homework Later" High School Sailing Regatta was a success at Mentor Harbor Yachting Club, with 62 participating students competing in 14 c420s. This was a Tier-3 regatta, the second of 3 co-ed conference series regattas in Ohio for 2016. Race committee ran 10 races total, 5 per division.
After the previous day's storms cleared out in the early morning, the winds kicked in and the weather was perfect with blue skies, moderate breeze, and very little chop on Lake Erie. Donuts and juice primed the sailors for rigging, and lunches were prepped to eat out on the water during racing.
Overall winning teams were: 1st Place: Thomas Worthington High School - Westerville, OH (Columbus area) 2nd Place: Southwestern Central High School - Chautauqua, NY 3rd Place: Rocky River High School - Rocky River, OH (Cleveland area)
Division A, B and Overall Winners received trophies for their schools, and the individuals received drawstring bags with the "Sail Now, Homework Later" regatta logo. "Rookie Awards" were given to 11 sailors for whom Fall 2016 is their first-ever season, being introduced to sailing through high schools. They all received a green drawstring bag with the regatta logo.
Many thanks to PRO Joe Colling and race committee Duke Allyn, Wim van Heeckeren and Sandy McMillan. Mark boat was run by Bill Frissell and Dave Mathias. Many parent-volunteers helped with rigging, and drove MHYC or their own chase boats allowing the sailors to stay out on the water in between division races. Our scoring team included Naomi Gutmann, Loren Shade and thanks to Sarah Hoctor and Jamie Jones for lending their expertise, while safety was run by Colleen Gallagher.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
