Banks Blackwell Invitational

This years Banks Blackwell regatta was sold out, with 16 different schools sailing Culver's 420 fleet. The weather was clear and chilly Saturday morning, with barely a whisper of breeze. After an hour postponement, the race committee started the races in a light and shifty easterly wind of about 4 kts. By mid-day the wind had become a series of shifts, in one race from 180 degrees opposite direction! All sailors found their way to the finish line, and the rest of the day's races enjoyed a more predictable easterly of 4-6 kts. Eleven races were completed, with the second B division being postponed for Sunday.

Sunday dawned windless and slightly less chilly than Saturday. After a short delay and course reset, races were underway in a 4 kt. south east breeze. The wind quickly built to 6-8 kts for the rest of the day. The wind was quite steady and predictable, allowing the race committee to get a total of 9 more races off the line, for a total of 20, 10 each for A and B division. Everyone was back at the beach by 2 pm. After protests and packing-up, awards were given at 3:30 pm. Thank you to all schools for coming out and sailing with us at Culver!
