Fall Colors Match Race

Summary

Sunday, October 22:

Saturday's practice session focused on the starting, entry, and first beat strategy to put the teams in play for a great Grade 5 on Sunday. Unfortunately the breeze of 15+ didn't allow for much in the way of spinnaker practice. Sunday the boats left the dock @945 Due to Saturday's high winds, racing began late at 10:30am to allow for spinnaker practice.

Wind from WSW was stable with pressure from 8-10mph. Racing began calmly but quickly ramped up as the first two round robins progressed. BSM jumped to an early lead by taking out both OHS and WHS in the first round. Another victory in Round two against OHS by BSM, set up a showdown RR2 Flight 3 match up for OHS and WHS to decide their fate. Despite a tough fight till the end, OHS was able to take the final RR race to make it to the finals against BSM.

Finals brought bigger breeze (12-15mph) and increasingly intense battles around the course. Accidental contact, close dial-ups, big luffs with kites, and the breeze to throw the boats around made for exciting matchups. A tough three races were completed, OHS powering out of a tough set of RR to reach 3 points in three races. Congratulations Orono!
