GP South - Fall Fleet Sunday

Nineteen teams were met with gorgeous fall weather on Sunday morning. The wind did not look promising on arrival at Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, but filled in nicely and each division ended up completing eight races on the "Z Trophy" course. The water temperature was warm, but air temperatures were cool to start the day and sailor attire ranged from shorts to drysuits. The sun eventually warmed up the air, making for spectacular viewing conditions at GPYC's sailing center. This is a wonderful new facility for sailors and parents alike. Sailing was right off the sea wall, and there was a good size crowd cheering on each team.

Congratulations to Grosse Pointe South's Varsity team for winning the regatta. GPS Gold finished second, Cranbrook Kingswood Blue finished third, GPS Blue finished fourth, and Grosse Ile Scarlet finished fifth. Kudos to East Grand Rapids for traveling the farthest distance to participate in the regatta.

Thank you to Grosse Pointe South regatta chair, Harold Stackpoole, for organizing an enjoyable regatta, to the race committee for all their hard work, to the shore crew for keeping the sailors fed and hydrated, and to Grosse Pointe Yacht Club for providing the facility and boats.
