NJISA 2017 Fall Fleet Championship

Summary

Saturday, October 14:

Mother Nature did not provide anything close to ideal sailing conditions for the 13 NJISA high school sailing teams that came to Toms River today for the NJISA Fall Fleet Race Championship regatta.

Under cloudy skies, with drizzle for the first hour or so, a very light and oscillating northerly breeze was all the RC had to work with. After two rotations, the fleet was held ashore for a 30 minute postponement in anticipation of the easterly breeze that was 2 miles east of the race course making it into the river. The A Division fleet was sent out, the course was adjusted and one race was attempted, but abandoned when the fleet was becalmed before they made it to the windward mark. Four races in each division were completed for the day; each set consisted of a W4 and then a W3 course. No protests were filed.

The Ranney Panthers came out on top with their 19 points and command of the light conditions. The Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs were second with 36 points while the CBA Colts and Southern Rams were in third and fourth respectively, tied with 49 points. These top four teams will advance to the MASSA District Fall Gold Fleet Championship in Rochester, NY next weekend.

The Trinity Hall Monarchs, Toms River North Mariners, Red Bank Catholic Casey's and St Augustine Prep Hermits placed 5th through 8th in the fleet and will be headed to Annapolis, MD for there MASSA District Fall Silver Fleet Championship.

Congratulations to all these teams and best of luck representing their schools and the NJISA League next weekend.

Many thanks Dave Magno for moving the marks around, US Sailing Judges Harry Foote and Pris Gettis for serving as on-the-water judges and protest committee and the Toms River East Raider sailors Luke and Loring Dunton for assisting with patrolling the course and scoring. As always, thank you to TRYC and OCC for the use of their facilities and fleet of boats.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
