SAISA South Points 1

Summary

Saturday, October 21:

The toughest calls for any Race Committee are the ones made on the beach. Is it safe to take the kids out on the water? For the two days preceding the event, Jensen Beach had seen strong breeze blowing day and night. The forecast for Saturday was more of the same and some of the early morning measurements from the weather station showed 25 kts. Normally, that is too much breeze for 420s. However, it settled down into the high teens and we went racing. That much velocity has its advantage as the breeze tends to be consistent in direction and this proved to be the case. It also tends to keep the kids back at the starts. The RC did a very good job with square start lines and this allowed the competitors to time it well. It was impressive to watch and they lined up beautifully from signal to pin with almost no OCS all day. The busiest people on the race course were safety, especially on the outer on the runs. Jibing was perilous for some of the sailors. Luckily they were well tended to by the Race Committee safety boats when over. A great day of sailing with 6 races in both A and B divisions.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
