While Tropical Cyclone 18 was turning into Tropical Storm Philippe as it marched toward South Florida, its weather bands significantly impacted Hollywood's North Lake at Holland Park, where SP2 was being sailed. Philippe turned SP2 into a heavy air battle. Dry in the beginning, very wet at its premature end, 12 heavy air races were completed. The regatta was called after tornado warnings, >20mph winds and torrential rain moved in. In attendance were 20 varsity and 9 JV boats, sailing together on one starting line.
The predominantly east wind all day favored right, but early each beat, the left could pay, never late though. The game each race was to get off the line and find your way right. All were clued in on this, making the right end of the starting line crowded. It was a challenging regatta, but some found it slightly less challenging than others. Top three finishers were Pinecrest, Shorecrest Prep and St. Thomas Aquinas, respectively.
Many thanks to all of the volunteers from the Lauderdale Yacht Club, Pine Crest and St. Thomas Aquinas High Schools for supporting high school sailing and making this annual event possible. The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
