2023 Fall MDISA Fall TEAM RACE Championship hosted by ANNAPOLIS YACHT CLUB:
The MDISA District held a two day Team Race Qualifier over the weekend of September 30th - October 1st, 2023 off of the mouth of Back Creek from Annapolis Sailing School's floating docks. Severna Park, Key School, and St. Mary's High School (MD) co-hosted the Championship with the Annapolis Yacht Club in their Fleet of C420s. Eight teams from MDISA District competed for the top 5 qualifying spots.
The Race Committee completed a double round robin (116 races) and a sail off to break up any ties before 4:00 PM cut off. Five schools qualified for the MASSA Team Race Championship at Old Dominion University (ODU). Winds ranged from 6-9 knots in a northerly breeze throughout the Championship with some gusts to 12 knots and temperatures were in the lower mid-70s which allowed us to get races off quickly and efficiently, and the level of competition has continued to rise within the district. Our Signal Boat Docking Time was approximately 4:30 PM. Only one break down of a shroud pin and a couple of tiller universals were reported, which were all fixed on the water. There were no major protests.
Congratulations to the top 5 schools for qualifying for the 2023 Fall MASSA Team Race Championship hosted by Old Dominion University (ODU) on October 14th -15th, 2023. Scores were very tight and the top 5 teams were only separated by a few points! A big congratulations goes out to Severn School's "Admirals" for winning the 2023 MDISA Fall Team Race Qualifier Championship title!
Key School and St. Mary's School would like to thank the Annapolis Yacht Club's Waterfront Staff & Volunteers (Mitch J. Powell (Regatta Chair), Travis Carlisle (MDISA League Director), Race Management Team, Umpires, and Jr. Fleet Staff, Hollis Barth as our Finish Boat) for hosting the event in their club's Fleet of C420s. Also a big thank you goes out to Annapolis Sailing School for allowing us to use their facilities, without them this regatta would not of happened! Thank you to all the coaches and sailors for traveling over here for a great weekend of team racing!
