MDISA Tier 1 at SCC

Sailing Center Chesapeake hosted a full roster of teams for a fall tier 1 fleet race at Chancellor’s Point, MD. The forecast was for gentle breezes from the southeast at 6-8 knots with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. The first course was set with a southerly orientation and a light 3-5 knot breeze. Racing started shortly after 9:30. Oscillations were small and consistent, and the course did not require adjustment through 3 races. Racers were aggressive and several individual recalls were hailed but all competitors cleared themselves and got back in the fray. Several boats had equipment failures of the wire Nicro Press in the jib headstay wire. The decision was made after the second rotation to change out all competitors main and jib to the suits of practice sails newly acquired from Saint Mary’s College. The wind for the afternoon backed to the southeast and the course was reset. The wind remained relatively steady but gained some intensity up toward 10-12 knots with cloud generated puffs. The Race Committee and Shoreside were in frequent communication as to location and distance of afternoon build-ups. The courses were shortened to 10
