VISA TCIS Fleet Championship

Summary

Thursday, October 26:

Five member teams from the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools (TCIS) arrived at 2:00PM at Mill Creek for their annual Championship to find a beautiful fall afternoon with temperatures in the low 70's. Seas were unfortunately flat, sometimes glass like. Sailors had a brief postponement when they got to the course until the winds picked up from the NE at 4-5mph with gusts to 8mph and sailing commenced. We had another brief postponement on the water with a lull, wind and course changes, and sailing resumed with 4-6mph westerly wind and gusts to 11mph. At 5PM the racing was called for the day.

The TCIS format is 3 division combined division racing. Four races were completed on a W-4 course. One protest was heard resulting in a DSQ for Norfolk Academy for fouling a fellow competitor while jibing.

Norfolk Collegiate captured first place with 59 points, followed by Norfolk Academy with 62 points in second, and Norfolk Academy with 66 points in third.

TCIS Annual Awards are as follows:

TCIS All-Conference (Note: We had 8 All-TCIS recipients this year because of a tie in the voting) James Allgeier - Norfolk Academy Marin Soderberg - Norfolk Academy Parker Moore - Hampton Roads Academy Kiana Beachy - Norfolk Collegiate Sabrina Casagrande - Norfolk Academy Josie Brindley - Hampton Roads Academy Maddie Murphy - Norfolk Collegiate Finn Bohan - Norfolk Collegiate

Co-Sailor of the Year - James Allgeier - Norfolk Academy & Parker Moore - Hampton Roads Academy Coach of the Year - Tom Etheridge - Norfolk Academy Betty Jean Riddick Sportsmanship Award - Peninsula

Much thanks to the race committee from HRA, especially Stan Bielewicz for serving as PRO.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
