NJISA 2024 Monmouth Hawks Invitational

Summary

Saturday, October 5:

NJISA High School Sailing returned to the Shrewsbury River for the first time in five years for the Monmouth Hawks Invitational Regatta. It was a beautiful October day with temperatures reaching the 70s and the breeze holding at 5-8 knots from the north-northeast. The wind began to taper off as we reached the late afternoon hours, which made Race 6B the end point for racing. All 12 races were LA2 courses.

Southern Regional won seven of the 12 races on the day to cruise to a regatta victory. Second place Christian Brothers Academy Team One edged third place Donovan Catholic Team One on a tiebreaker. In A Division, it was Southern's Turner Ryon, Jude Ryon and Noah Tallman taking first by two points over CBA's Cole Buczkowski and Matthew Dupree. In B Division, Southern's Gannon Botwinick and Belle Placa winning by nine points over Donovan's Cameron Hart and Anna Hnatt.

A big thank you to Shrewsbury Sailing & Yacht Club for welcoming sailors back to this great location for high school sailing. SSYC's Talbott Ingram served as the PRO with Lee Ingram taking scores. Another thank you to the Monmouth University Sailing Team for supplying the fleet of FJs and staffing the mark and patrol boats on the water. MU coach Amanda Nuse and her sailors worked hard keep the course squared with the shifty breeze. The NJISA hopes to return to SSYC soon!

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
