Eleven teams from 6 schools participated in the VISA fall Team Championship. Sailors arrived to another beautiful fall day on the Lafayette River to find temperatures in the mid 70's, partly cloudy skies, glass seas, and no wind. The regatta was initially postponed on shore with the first boats launching shortly after 10 and after waiting for the wind to fill in, the first start was at 10:53 at SW. The morning brought significant oscillations up to 90 degrees each side of center. The course was reset multiple times until the wind finally settled in at 9-13mph NE with gusts slightly higher around 12:30. Holding a steady direction, the wind built to around 15 mph by the end of the racing at 4:30.
Sailors were divided into 2 divisions, who sailed round robins interwoven with each other. When these first round robins were completed at race 25, the top 4 teams from A division were seeded into a locked rank group to determine the top schools in VISA. The entire fleet then sailed a completion round. Sailors completed 55 races on a digital N course.
Christchurch School took first place with with a perfect 10 wins and 0 losses. They were followed in second place by Hampton Roads Academy with 9 wins and 1 loss. Norfolk Academy was he third place school with 6 wins and 4 losses.
Many thanks to the Race committee, especially PRO PJ Trudell, and Scott Robertson on finish.
