VISA York County JV Fleet Race Regatta

Summary

Saturday, September 27:

Sailors were greated at the Rappahannock River with temps in the low 70’s, and frequent rain varying from light to downpour. The regatta had a postponement on shore as they waited for the wind to fill in, before launching around 10:00. Morning wind filled in generally easterly at 6-12mph with gusts higher. Afternoon winds, still generally easterly, built to the mid-teens with gusts close to 20mph when varsity racing was called around 2 due to a miserable rain/wind combo.

On the varsity course, 18 teams representing 11 schools competed in 2 divisions which were on the course at the same time with alternating starts. A division sailed 420’s and B division sailed FJ’s. Each division completed 6 W-4 races. Christchurch School Team 2 ran away with first place with 27 points. Christchurch School Team 1 followed in second place with 38 points. Norfolk Academy Team 1 finished in third place with 56 points.

The JV course had 13 teams representing 5 schools. They completed 6 single division W-4 single division races before abandoning racing around noon. Christchurch Team 1 took first place with 4 bullets and 10 points. Christchurch Team 2 won the tie-breaker for second place with 19 points. They were followed by Christchurch Team 4 lost the tie-breaker leaving them in third place with 19 points.

Thanks goes to the volunteers who make these events possible, especially varsity PRO Alex Jacob and JV PRO Jodi Kelly. Thanks is also extended to the Christchurch and York County teams who hosted and organized the events.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
