Twenty-eight PCISA teams arrived at EYC on Saturday morning to compete for the 2014 Silver Championships. Light and variable southerly breezes gave way to the predicted westerly which built from 8 knots in the early afternoon, to a steady 15 knots with 22 knots gusts later in the day. The strong breezes challenged the competitors’ boat handling skills, and overturned cFJs were a common sight in the normally benign Oakland/Alameda estuary. As wind speeds continued to escalate throughout the afternoon, several teams exercised discretion and good judgment by sitting out the later day races. Each division completed four races, and we will start Sunday with 5A.
Racers hit the course for the scheduled 1015 first warning, as the race committee attempted the leverage the remnants of an overnight southeast breeze to complete race 5A. However, the race was abandoned when the wind shut down, and a short on-land postponement ensued. Racing resumed as a nice westerly worked down the estuary, and each division completed to two more sets in shifty, 5 to 8 knot breezes before the racing ended by the 4 PM time limit. Following the completion of protest hearings, the competitors gathered for an award ceremony and more great food from the EYC volunteers. Congratulations to the Point Loma High School team, who sailed consistently well in all conditions

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
