SAISA District Championship

Racing was held in the Medway River at Sunbury, Georgia. Although the clouds were ominous all morning, and rain had been forecast for most of the day, none ever materialized. The wind was from the southwest at 5 to 6 knots in the morning, eventually building to 15 knots out of the west by late afternoon, with a very strong current. 16 races were completed, and numerous protests were heard until late into the night.

A front came through overnight, dropping the temperature and shifting the wind to the northwest, at 13-15 knots sustained with gusts to 20 knots and occasionally more. Twelve more races were completed, for a total of 28 races. The judges stayed busy finishing protest hearings from the day before and entertaining a few new ones. When all was said and done, Shorecrest Prep took top honors, and, along with Pine View School, Sarasota High and St. Thomas Aquinas High, will receive invitations to the ISSA National Championship for the Mallory Trophy in San Diego May 10-11, 2014.
