Twelve races were completed in each division today. The first 8 races saw "A" division starting in FJ's while B division sailed 420's, after which they swapped boats.
Extremely difficult conditions in Bayboro Harbor, generally south winds, 6-11 knots, but with an easterly component on the left side of the course, influenced by the opening to Tampa Bay, and a westerly component on the right side of the course, influenced by the funneling effect from the narrowing of the harbor.
Races were all W6's and W5's, alternating between downwind and upwind finishes, average length of 15 minutes for the 15 boat fleet.
Local team Shorecrest Prep leads at the end of the day, with 4 more races to sail in each division on Sunday.
Winds stronger than forecast greeted sailors on Sunday for the final 4 races in each division. The racing was extremely tight for the 4 berths to the Mallory Championships, except for Shorecrest Prep who maintained their lead despite a qualification from the day before.
Racing began with winds in a still generally south direction starting at 10 knots, but quickly building to 15, with gusts recorded above 20 knots. This resulted in several capsizes, particularly downwind in the FJ fleet, as most teams were unfamiliar with the boats. Only a few breakdowns, resulting in one redress awarded. No protests filed.
Races were W6's and W5's, averaging 15 minutes in length. One race was abandoned when two 50' sailboats entered the harbor, splitting the fleet in half and taking out the weather mark.
Thanks to the University of South Florida Sailing Team for hosting, and to St. Petersburg YC, Davis Island Youth Sailing, and Sarasota Youth Sailing for the loan of 420's and sails.
Congratulations to all fifteen teams who qualified for the regatta, and to Shorecrest Prep, Pineview, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Wando for advancing to the Mallory Championships in May.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
