170 sailors, from 24 NW high schools, took over Seattle's Sail Sand Point for this weekend's Combined Division Regatta. The first two-day event of the NWISA Spring season had teams split into two fleets based on North and South regional qualifiers held the previous weekend. Each school's A and B boats sailed at the same time in each division.
Saturday began with moderate mid-teen breeze with frequent higher puffs. Gold Division hit the water for the first race which started at 10:45. The breeze steadied a bit by the time Silver division came out to a 10-14 kt Southerly that held all day with plenty of shifts and puffs to keep all the sailors on their toes. By the end of the day Saturday, six races averaging 21-minutes were completed in each 38-boat division.
The postponement flag was up at 10:00 and did not come down until almost noon when a light SE breeze finally made it's way to the race course at 3-5 kts. The RC team acted quickly to get off four more gold division races and silver had to settle for only two more races before the 15:00 cutoff.
When the last roll tack had been flattened, it was Bellingham's Sehome HS that left with the title in the gold fleet, and Olympia HS captured silver honors.
A huge thanks goes to Sail Sand Point for hosting the event! Thank you to the teams who brought and lent boats, especially the ones who went home with ripped sails and some fiberglass damage. Thanks also to PRO Brendan Fahey and his RC team of Mike Smuga, Alex Jones, Emery Wager, Leigh Hammel, Mallory Loe, and Andrew Loe who worked hard to keep the W3, W4, and W5 courses square with windward offset and leeward gate.
And most of all, thanks to Regatta Chair Nino Johnson for all his work organizing, preparing, and executing the event. The food truck was a nice touch for the hungry sailors and spectators!

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
