Ursuline Schools Regatta

This regatta is the first of what we hope to be an annual regatta between schools in the Ursuline network. Sailors from St. Ursula Academy in Cincinnati and Ursuline Academy New Orleans first met for a crawfish dinner and bonfire Friday night in New Orleans. Saturday morning the sailors went to the French Quarter for some fresh beignets before heading to New Orleans Yacht Club at 11:00. The sailors headed out to the lake at 12:00 and completed four races under sunny skies, with temperatures in the 60s, and steep Lake Pontchartrain chop with an East wind at 10-20 mph. Racing ended at around 2:00 so the sailors could get ready for the Mardi Gras parades.

Teams met at 12:00 today so that the sailors could attend Mass beforehand. Racing started at 2:00 with the temperatures in the 50s under overcast skies. Wind was out of the east at about 15mph and slowly died to about 8 mph for the last race. After racing, the sailors went out for a seafood dinner.
