1.RULES: 1.1.The regatta will be governed by: 2021-2024 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), prescriptions of the US Sailing Association, ISSA Procedural Rules, MISSA By-laws and District Rules, NOR, and the SI’s.
2.CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS: 2.1.Any changes to the SI’s will be posted on the Official Notice Board on the Sailing School office door or orally from the Race Committee Boat.
3 GREEN INITIATIVE: 3.1 We are asking that all sailors, coaches and parents bring reusable bottles. Going green with reusable bottles will benefit our wonderful Lake Michigan by reducing, reusing, recycling unnecessary waste and conserving plastic. Some of the greatest threats to future resources come from things we throw away every day. There is no resource more precious than the environment and it’s our job to keep our planet green. 3.2 5-gallon water jugs will be out on the racecourse and dock area to facilitate the filling up of bottles.
4 BOAT DAMAGE: 4.1 If 420 damage cannot be attributed to a team or teams, the repair costs will be divided evenly between all the teams competing. In the event of a collision or damage to a boat, this fee structure will apply: each half hour to repair is $75, all glass work needed will automatically be 1 hour or more to repair.
5 RACING AREA/COURSES: 5.1 The course the Race Committee will be using is “W 4” All mark roundings will be made to port (except Gate). The Start is between mark “Start” and an Orange flag on the RC boat. After start is as follows: 5.2 After the Start the 420 class will then head to mark “W1,” between marks “L1 & L2”, mark “W1,” and then head to Finish (sailors may pass inside or outside the gates on their way to the finish as they choose). The finish will be on the Port side of the RC boat between an Orange flag and mark “Finish.” 5.3 Marks will be Red spheres for windward mark. Mark Start and Finish will be a Yellow inflatable sphere. Gates will be Red spheres 5.4 Starting sequence shall be 3-minute dinghy starts per RRS appendix S. 5.5 The Racing Area will be the waters of Lake Michigan directly off the Wilmette Harbor.
6 INDIVIDUAL RECALLS/ PROTESTS: 6.1 Code Flag “X” may be displayed for individual recalls. It is the responsibility of the yacht to make a proper start. Failure of the Race Committee to make these signals or failure of a starter on the course side to see or hear these signals shall not relieve the offending yacht from restarting and is not grounds for redress. 6.2 Forms can be found in the Sailing School Office, all protest forms must be handed in 30 minutes after RC Dock time, all Saturday Protest will be heard after racing.
7 COACHING: 7.1 It is the responsibility of the coaches to know the skill and limits of their competitors, and thus pull said competitors from racing if conditions exceed their limitations. 7.2 The Race Committee shall designate the area where competitors may receive coaching, assistance or sustenance, provided at least one coach from each team has equal access to the area. Contact with competitors shall be limited to the designated area. 7.3 Team-leaders, chaperones, advisors, coaches and other support personnel shall not go afloat in the sailing area during the weekend, unless with the permission of the event chairperson.
8 OFFICIAL NOTICE FOR ALL TEAMS: 8.1 Sheridan Shore Sailing School, Wilmette Harbor Club, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District and its officers, members, employees, and race committee assume and accept no responsibility for property damage to any boat or personal injury to any skipper, crew, or friends incurred while participating in this regatta, including pre- and post-race activities. It is the responsibility of the skipper, along with his/her coach, advisor, and/or parent(s) to assess the condition of his/her boat, whether or not he/she owns said boat, and its suitability for the weather expected during the course of the race, and to decide whether to start or continue any race.
