Day 1 of the PCISA #4 Golden Bear regatta started with colder-than-normal temperatures and a light north wind, if any at all. Races were delayed at several points due to lack of wind and our first attempt was abandoned due to the wind dying on the first leg. A few races were completed with the northerly before it the sun came out, and it filled from the West-Northwest at 7-10 knots in the late afternoon for racing until nearly sunset with the last boats getting off the water around 5pm.
Forecasts for day 2 were for an extremely rare, heavy south wind. Yerba Buena island to the south of Treasure Island blocked the breeze at several points during the day. The most consistent wind by mid-day was on the eastern edge of Clipper Cove, with more exposure to the south breeze. The B-divisions raced their fourth races in both the Gold and Silver fleets with 8-12 knots of wind. But the wind built steadily after several races, and by the time of Silver A division rotation, the wind was steadily over 15 knots. Racing stopped after puffs of 24 knots made conditions difficult for some sailors and the rotations slow. Moving the course deeper into the cove for protection from the wind, we tried a few starts but found it difficult given the current. Winds died down just enough to move back to the eastern part of the cove to finish the second round of Gold B division's races.
The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
