MASSA Team Race Championship

Saturday morning started off with about 4-7 knots from the East Northeast and slowly shifted to the North as the day progressed. The sailors had to deal with some big shifts at different points in the morning and some strong currents on the Chester River. As the day went on we had some light spots where we had to postpone for a short period of time, but it didn't take long to get racing back up and running as the rotation docks were just a short sail away from the racecourse. Josh Morrison (PRO) did a fantastic job keeping racing moving as we were able to complete 27 races today. We also thank our umpires for pulling double duty as mark movers as well! Our Chief Umpire was Billy Martin, and a big thank you to the other umpires who volunteered their time today, Bill Ball, Josh Paper, Geoff Becker, Margaret Podlich, and Sara Morgan Waters.

The standings after day 1 of racing are, Severn School in 1st, Archbishop-Spalding in 2nd, and Norfolk Academy in 3rd.

We were welcomed to the Hodson Boat house today with a lot of rain but a solid 5-10 knot breeze from the East. We had to initially postpone the start of racing due to lightening in the area, but were able to complete Round 1's last race and start the Top 6 round by 1008. We completed the Top 6 round by 1130 and was able to finish a Final 4 with Severn, Archbishop-Spalding, Norfolk Academy, and Hampton Roads Academy. It was tight racing all day and the battle for 2nd went all the way to the 2nd to last race of the Final 4.

The final results were Severn (1st), Archishop-Spalding (2nd), Norfolk Academy (3rd).
