CYC 2023 MISSA Icebreaker

Summary

Saturday, March 25:

The Ice Breaker is annually the first event of the MISSA Central Spring season that is some sailor's first time on the water for the season. March in Chicago also brings unpredictable weather that we saw the full range of throughout the event.

Day 1 saw intermittent pockets of precipitation both liquid and solid as the temperature hovered in the mid 30's with overcast skies. Winds were fifty and gusty around 12-15 knots sustained with gusts in the low 20's from the North/ North West that built the night before from the East building up big waves out on the lake. So the Race Committee led by PRO Alex Verslype, decided to race inside Belmont Harbor that was protected and flat with the added benefit of making rotations quick and easy. In total we were able to get in 16 races; 8 races for each fleet.

Thank you to all our volunteers for the day!

Sunday, March 26:

Day 2 of the Ice Breaker saw the weather pattern that thew us the bigger winds Day 1 move out leaving no wind for today. Despite CYC RC Chair Tom Sublewski's best efforts scouting for wind out on the lake, it was concluded that we were out of time to get racing in even if the wind filled in and we abandoned racing for the rest of the day and therefore the regatta.

Sailors enjoyed some extra time to catch up on homework after lunch at the club and the awards presentation. We hope everyone had a great time and hope to see them back for the next regatta.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
