Based on the ugly weather forecast, the report time was pushed back to 10:00am and all sailors assumed that based on the forecast sailing may not have been possible.
Instead, the forecasters provided us with an excellent April fools joke. Sailors arrived to light and variable winds that made for excellent sailing conditions. The Course was set with the start line right off the rotation dock in the 6-10kt southerly and racing began around 1050. Sailing continued smoothly throughout the day with gusty shifty breeze intermittent rain and a building cross current.
At around 2pm, the skies cleared and with it came the breeze and a big right shift. The RC team worked quickly to reset the course and racing continued in a 15-18kt southwesterly breeze.
A huge thanks to the SUNY undergrads who volunteered their Saturday to run races! Congrats to the Stony Brook Bears for winning the Invitational.
