VISA Fleet Championship

Summary

Saturday, May 27:

For the season championship, the forecast was quite windy. The resultant wind was blustery at NNE 17-25mph with gusts into the mid 30's. In order to pull off a regatta in the predicted conditions, we borrowed reefable FJ main sails from ODU. The entire event was sailed with the mains reefed. Three teams dropped before racing commenced. The A/B format started with 11 boats of hearty youth on the line and ended with 8 boats starting in race 4B. Seas started off flat and built to a chop midday. Skies were partly cloudy and the temp was unseasonably cold at a high of 64 degrees.

Racing began at 9:23 with the first gun. Four races in each division were completed. Norfolk Academy took first place, followed by Granby HS in second place and Hampton Roads Academy Team 1 in third place.

The top finishes in A Division were Norfolk Academy, Granby, and Hampton Roads Academy team 2.

The top finishes in B Division were Norfolk Academy, Hampton Roads Academy Team 1 and Maury High School.

Greatest thanks to Mitch Brindley for not only lending the sails, but also for delivering and picking them up at the end of the day. Without his generous support, we would not have been able to sail in these conditions.

And a welcoming thanks to NCS alum Parker Purrington for returning to volunteer his time as PRO, along with the rest of the race committee.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
