VISA CCS Fleet Regatta 1

Summary

Saturday, April 13:

Eighteen teams from eleven area schools arrived to a blustery day on the Rappahannock River with partly cloudy skies and seasonable 60-70 degree temps. Westerly winds were sustained in the mid to high teens with gusts generally reaching in the 20's, shifting NW in the afternoon. Oscillations ran about 60 degrees. Seas were 1 foot.

First warning was at 9:20. Two each A and B races were accomplished when a significant gust took over 6 boats at once during the last windward rounding of the B2 race. At the conclusion of the race, sailors were sent ashore for postponement until the wind laid back down to sailable at 1:30. It took a while for sailors that chose to continue sailing to gear-up, launch and get to the course and at 2:00 race A3 was started. Just one more race in each division was completed with A total of 3 races in each division on a W-4 course.

Christchurch Team 2 took first place with an impressive 16 points, followed closely by Christchurch Team 1 in second with 17 points, and Hampton Roads Academy Team 1 in third place with 31 points.

A huge thanks is extended to Christchurch School for welcoming VISA, and to the race committee, especially PRO Alex Jacob who managed the absolute best course possible throughout the oscillations, made some tough decisions regarding the conditions, and professionally handled "input" from some of the coaches.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
