VISA Girls Championship

Summary

Saturday, April 20:

Seventeen single division teams from 11 area schools met at Mill Creek in an unseasonably cold brisk 46 degree day for the annual VISA Girls Championship. Winds ranged generally 14-18mph with gusts in the 15-25mph range, initially NE rotating gradually to just NNE. Seas were relatively flat with a bit of a chop. To the disappointment of all, a constant drizzle waxing and waning in intensity persisted throughout the regatta.

Sailors completed 4 W-4 races before taking a half hour break on land to warm up and use the facilities, after which, they relaunched and completed an additional 5 races, for a total of nine solid races.

Sailing was good, and competition was intense resulting in finishes that were tight with HRA Team 1 taking first with a narrow one point margin finishing with 26 points. Norfolk Academy Team 1 took second with 27 points, and Christchurch Team three came in third with a very close 27 points.

Greatest thanks to the race committee, especially PRO Allen Kilgore who founded and continues to return every year for the annual Girls regatta at YSV. We look forward to seeing him next year. And, to Candy DiCarlo who has worked tirelessly behind the scene for several years to make the girls regatta a special event. We will deeply miss her and wish her peace and happiness in her new community and home.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
