Fourteen teams from eight area schools met at the protected waters of Mill Creek on a partly cloudy beautiful but chilly spring day. Sailing commenced promptly at 9:15 with Northwest winds just under 15 mph. Throughout the day, the wind varied between 8-18 mph with gusts consistently around 5mph higher, clocking slightly right to NNW and then left to due W and finally back to the starting point at NW. Oscillations were significant at approx. 30 degrees either side of center. Seas were lumpy.
Sailors completed 7 W-4 races in each of two divisions, ending about a half hour early at 2:30PM. Norfolk Academy Team 1 took first place, followed by Christchurch School Team 1 in second, and Christchurch School Team 3 in third place.
Two protests were heard, one was disallowed, and the other resulted in a boat retiring after finishing.
Greatest thanks are extended to the race committee especially Arielle Darrow who served as PRO, ran perfect races, and managed the significant oscillations expertly.
