VISA Norfolk Academy Team Race

Summary

Saturday, March 30:

Sailors arrived to perfectly calm conditions at Norfolk Yacht, so they settled into what would be a several hour postponement. A brief attempt was made to run a race around 11:30, but the pulse of breeze receded, and sailors returned to shore. Around 1pm, a pod of dolphins began playing on they race course and they brought 5 knots of breeze from the northwest. Teams launched and racing got underway around 1:15 with a plan to complete a 15 race round robin. The breeze clocked left and built to around 10 knots by 2:30, halfway through the round. All teams agreed to extend the no start after time and all 15 races were completed by 3:20.

Congratulations to Norfolk Academy for winning first place in the event. Hampton Roads Academy brought in a close second place with Christchurch school taking third.

Thanks to all volunteers who kept the course square and racing running!
