Seventeen girls teams descended on Toms River Yacht Club for the MASSA Girls Championship. With temperatures approaching 80 degrees, the conditions proved to be almost perfect for a full Saturday of sailing, with a morning southwesterly going left to a typical New Jersey seabreeze by noontime. The seabreeze direction helped pick the pace of the racing up, allowing for 11 total W4 races to be sailed. A 12th race was intended, but a small thunderstorm popped up and ended the day's sailing around 1600 hours.
The Pingry School and Norfolk Collegiate separated themselves from the pack and sat one-point apart at the end of the first day. The Severn School and the Stony Brook School were also separated by one point in third and fourth.
One protest was filed and heard, resulting in one DSQ.
Sunday's conditions were much different from the picture-perfect Saturday, as a front began to make its way through New Jersey overnight and into the morning. Temperatures were in the low 60s and sailors were rained on for much of the morning. A south-southwest breeze hung in there at a fine 6-10 knots throughout the rain spurts, as the final six races of the series completed.
In a back and forth affair, Pingry managed to win the regatta in the 17th and final race, just edging out Norfolk Collegiate by three points overall. The tandem of Megan Soos '27 and Avery Hoffman '26 were victorious for the Big Blue, while the Oaks' Maddie Murphy '25 and Emma Horton '25 sailed a great series in second place. The Stony Brook School finished third, four points ahead of fourth place Severn. The Christchurch School rounded out the top five.
Thank you to the volunteers that helped organize and run this Girls Championship: MASSA Director Dr. Randall Nunn, PRO Dave Magno, RC assistant John Paggi, mark boat Jason Lutz with help from CBA sailors Christopher Small '26, Jules Buczkowski '26 and Cole Buczkowski '27, US Sailing judge Vince Harris, and patrol boat Brian Hull.
A special thanks to Toms River Yacht Club for welcoming these 17 MASSA teams to one of the best sites for high school sailing in the country and to the Barnegat Bay Yacht Racing Association for supporting the event.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
