Weather was a brisk 42 degrees as sailors arrived at 09:00, with a shifty 4-8 kts of breeze from the North East. Sunny conditions all day, with the temperature warming to 58 by end end of racing. Drysuits/wetsuits were required.
Race 1 started just after 10:00. A fleet sailed races 1A and 2A as a W4 course, switching to W6 courses for both divisions thereafter, with B fleet closing out with a W4 for races 3B and 4B.
The wind provided significant challenges for Race Committee and the sailors as they navigated 90 degree shifts like clockwork throughout the morning. After race 1B, the course was rotated to the north to adjust for the shifting average wind direction.
In race 3B, following a general recall, a race was started where the wind became significantly more challenging to sail with a sudden 90+ degree shift to the East for the first 3 laps of a W6. The race was abandoned, as every boat was beam reaching between marks for the first 3 of 6 laps with no sign of a shift back.
After abandoning, the wind died, then 180ed and filled lightly from the West. With hopes to complete another B fleet race to score the event, the course was reset and 3B was started in 2-3 kts of westerly breeze. The wind continued to falter as sailors proceeded up their first leg, however came in patches that were significant enough to continue the race, and the angle held steady. Following the finish, another shift to the South began.
A final race in the B-fleet set was sailed to even out the A fleet set as the wind held its southerly angle, but it continued to die away. At 15:05 as the first boat finished race 4B at a time of 18 minutes, it was determined that no more racing could be held and boats were sent in as they finished.
Many thanks to all for coming out to DC on a very challenging wind day. Thanks to the RC staff and land crew for keeping things rolling and adapting to constantly changing conditions.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
