VISA Poquoson Team Race Regatta

Eleven VISA Teams representing eight schools met at Mill Creek to compete under overcast skies, temperatures reaching the low 70's and slightly choppy seas. Initial SW winds were stiff clocking midday to WSW, sustained in the mid to high teens (mph) with gusts into the 20's.

Teams were initially seeded into interwoven rounds with A division having 5 teams and B division having 6 teams (25 races). They were then reseeded into a completion round (15 races) with all of the top 3 B division teams joining all of the A division teams. For final rankings, scores were carried over with the exception of the those races that did not result in all teams meeting the teams within the completion round. The bottom three teams in B division sailed a round (3 races) interwoven with the completion round. (43 races total) Teams were off the water shortly before 3 PM.

Final rankings resulted in Christchurch Team 1 taking first place with 7 wins and 0 losses. They were followed in second place by Christchurch School Team 2 taking second with 6 wins and 1 loss. Third place was captured by Norfolk Academy Team 1 with 5 wins and 2 losses.

Sincere thanks goes to all of the the race committee, especially PRO Leigh Chapman, Beth Murphy on finishes and Zig moving marks. Great thanks goes to Greg Murphy who modified boat assignments and kept the rotation running smoothly on the dock, despite boats that delayed returning to the dock, a breakdown, missing teams, skipped races, etc.
