2017 NJISA Sailfest

Summary

Saturday, September 9:

Twelve NJISA high school schools, making up 16 teams started the 2017 Fall season off in Toms River with the annual Sailfest Regatta. I was a beautiful early fall day, with temps in the low 70's and plenty of sunshine breaking through the numerous bright white cumulous clouds.

The ocillating wind direction (WSW to N) and velocity (4-12 mph) coincided with the sun peaking in and out from behind the clouds and provided challenging conditions for the both the sailors and the RC with keeping the course square. Six races were completed in each division, with a combination of W4 and W3 courses sailed in an attempt to finish the second race in each set in a strategic position to facilitate the rotations, but the shifting wind did not always cooperate to expedite the rotations.

The CBA Colts three year winning streak in this regatta was brought to an end by The Ranney School Panthers who prevailed over the other teams with a total of 32 points, winning both A and B division as well. The Southern Regional Rams finished in second with 54 points and the Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs rounded out the top three with their total of 64 points.

Thank you to Mitchell Nunn for running the races, along with Toms River East sailors Luke and Loring Dunton. As always, thanks to TRYC and OCC for the use of their facilities and fleet of boats!

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
