Olentangy Regatta

Summary

Saturday, October 14:

15 teams invaded Central Ohio on a beautiful fall day for the last leg of the Buckeye Cup at the Olentangy Regatta. Light breeze and cloudy skies gave way to sunny, warm, breezy conditions by the end of the day. 9 races in each division were completed. 1 protest was filed (disallowed) and no breakdowns recorded. When the spray settled, St. Ignatius (OH) won by 6 points, followed closely by Orange Varsity and Liberty Mascots. 4 all girl teams sailed in the event and Westerville North Girls won A division, while Thomas Worthington Girls placed 3rd in A. Lots of really good girl sailors in Columbus!

Many thanks go to the parents of the Columbus HS Sailors, including John Hoctor (TWHS) for being our PRO, Sarah Hoctor (TWHS) for running the scoring and coming up with sweet t-shirt designs (every sailor got one as part of registration!), Kari Friedauer (OLHS) for designing the trophies and manning the bake sale and connecting with Vineyard Vines (#VVColumbus). Shilah Griffeth (WNHS) and Angie Shaw (OOHS) managed the kitchen, and no one went away hungry! Finally, thanks to Jamie Jones (WSHS) for being overall chair of yet another super successful event in Central Ohio!

Most of all, congratulations to the top 3 teams that competed for the Buckeye Cup, which was a 3 regatta series in Ohio this fall. 18 teams qualified, and when it was all said and done, Liberty was 3rd, Orange was 2nd and St. Ignatius won!

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
