SAISA GREAT OAKS Qualifier

Bow to Stern Boating Center in Oriental NC was the host for this event with 18 FJ available for racing. The final fleet racing was made up of 15 Varsity teams from FL to NC. The weather could not have been better with the temperature in the low 70s with NE winds at 8-12kts and seas were flat to a slight chop. Racing started at 1043, which was directly after the competitor's meeting. Using RIBs to rotate sailors, the Race Committee was able to get in a total of 14 races before stopping at 1737. Racing was a short W/L course with very close competition and only one formal protest. The sailors had time to get back to their rooms/cabins/boats to clean up before heading to the Red Rooster for a Low Country Boil dinner, entertainment from a local band, and plenty of time for the sailors to mingle.

Sunday started off cooler with temperatures in the low 50s but quickly warmed into the low 70s. Winds started off light then filled nicely out of the NE ending up in the racing area around 8 to 15 kts. Racing started promptly at 0859. The race committee was able to complete 8 races before calling it a day at 1242. Racing was again very competitive with no formal protests. All boats were back at Bow to Stern Boating for awards. All teams had departed by 1400.
