SAISA North Points #1 Jordan Lk

Summary

Saturday, September 16:

Ten full teams and three JV/Composite teams from Savannah, Charleston, Pawleys Island, Wilmington, Beaufort, Charlotte and Raleigh areas, recovered from hurricane Irma the prior week to made it to Raleigh for NP #1 at Lake Jordan to kick off the SAISA North season. The weather forecast looked good, 85 degrees and winds 4-10 knots out of the Northeast, which is perfect for this venue. The actual winds were more lake like with frequent shifts from the northwest to the east and back throughout the day and the velocity was mostly 4-6 knots, but at times was as strong as 10 knots and as weak as 2 knots. This kept the RC busy all day adjusting the course and rewarded the sailors who paid the most attention to the shifts and the puffs. The fleet was very evenly matched and tight racing from start to finish during the 5 A Division and 5 B Division races on the W-L-W-L course.

The overall regatta winner was Myers Park (Charlotte) who moved into first after the B rotation and held their lead for the rest of the day finishing with a commanding lead with 24 points in 10 races. The competition for second thru sixth was very tight throughout the day with the final finishes of 2nd Wando (Charleston) 40 pts, 3rd Pine Lake Prep (Charlotte) 41 pts, 4th Porter Gaud (Charleston) 44 pts, 5th Lake Norman (Charlotte) 46 pts, and 6th Beaufort (Beaufort, SC) 50 pts.

In A Division, the team from Wando skippered by Jamie Renneker with crew Jack Sutton sailed extremely consistent all day finished first with 11 points, 2nd Pine Lake Prep skippered by Garrett Mergenthaler with crew Jenna Stephens 14 points, and 3rd Myers Park skippered by Kenny Corsig with crew Powell Forshaw 17 points.

In B Division, the team from Myers Park skippered by Adam Larson with crew Will Dobrowski sailed extremely will and finished first with 7 points, 2nd Porter Gaud skippered by Neil Walters with crew Clair Chomyn 16 points, and 3rd Lake Norman skippered by Evan Chennard with crew Megan Gutherie 18 points. Special mention goes to Cape Fear (Wilmington) who sailed as a JV/Composite team and would have won B Division if they were a full team with 7 points winning 4 out of 5 races.

RTP HS Sailing looks forward to seeing everyone back for the November 11th Open regatta at Lake Crabtree near the Raleigh Durham airport. This is a venue with excellent viewing area for coaches and spectators.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
