Allstate Sugar Bowl Great Oaks Regatta 2018 GOLD

Summary

Sunday, November 18:

On the second day of sailing, the Gold fleet saw 3-6 from the North East with beautiful blue skies and temperatures in the low 70s. The wind began at 65 degrees and ended at 15 degrees. It was a beautiful fall day except for fairly light winds. The 14 sailing teams who qualified for Gold fleet sailed 8 gold fleet races. The top 3 teams in Gold fleet were Isidore Newman School from New Orleans, Lake Travis High School from Austin, Tx, and Mounds Park Academy of St. Paul, Minnesota.

The Tulane sailing team, under the direction of coach Charles Higgins, volunteered to rig and launch the boats both days of the regatta. This luxury helped the race committee get on the water as fast as possible so they could get as many races as possible to take advantage of what wind there was.

Sailors came off of the water to enjoy a hot brownie Sunday bar after sailing.

Thank you to the Allstate Sugar Bowl committee for their generous donation that made the regatta possible. We also appreciate the New Orleans Community Sailing Center and Tulane University's sailing team for chartering the boats to the regatta and for their assistance making the regatta a success. The Southern Yacht Club staff did a wonderful job of accommodating the attendees and already have ideas for improvements for next year. And we especially thank all of the teams who traveled so far to attend the regatta.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
