Catholic Cup

Summary

Sunday, October 7:

The day started at 9am with a mini-clinic from Dave Dellenbaugh. Our classroom has never been so packed. Dave did a great job inspiring the young sailors with his talk. Thank you, Dave!

The weather was misty and wet with a light breeze (8-10 kts) out of the West/Southwest. Seas were running 1 foot or less. All 13 teams sailed from Captain's Cove to the starting area off St. Mary's Point on Long Island Sound. The breeze built slightly necessitating the windward mark be pushed out further for a bit longer races. The wind was fairly consistent in direction and strength, permitting solid competition. RC completed (5) W4 races in each division.

Sailors were treated to a pizza party sponsored by Regatta Ginger Beer on the boardwalk at Captain's Cove after racing. Mystic Knotworks sailors bracelets were awarded for first, second, and third places to all 4 competitors on each team. Overall winner of the Catholic Cup was Fairfield Prep.

Thank you to David, Wayne and Karen Tampellini family for running the Grand Banks and mark boat with Natalia from Fairfield University, Peter Coleman in coach boat and Brian Hayes in mark/rescue. A big thank you to Abby from Fairfield University for assisting on RC.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
