Good thing we were all in boats all day, because it RAINED ALL DAY!! The Thomas Worthington Invite (and the first leg of the Buckeye Cup Series) was an awesome event...because what's better than sailing in the rain? Nothing!
22 teams converged on Hoover Sailing Club in a downpour which let up intermittently through the day, only to come back harder and colder as the afternoon wore on. 7A and 7B races were completed before the 4PM deadline in 6-12 knots of breeze. 2 protests resulting in 1 DSQ were heard, and no breakdowns were filed. Congratulations to Avon for finishing 3rd, Thomas Worthington GIRLS for their hard earned 2nd and Westerville North for winning the event (even after counting a 19 in the first set of A's!)
Thanks to the many parents that helped make this event successful: Shilah Griffeth (WNHS) and her cast of 1000's in the kitchen making sure no one went away hungry, John Hoctor (TWHS) and Josh Martin (OLHS) for getting rotations off the dock quickly and safely, Sarah Hoctor (TWHS) for her work on scoring, Kari Friedauer and Stacy Martin (OLHS) at registration, Doug Squires (TWHS) and his merry band of misfits running races in the rain all day, and Jamie Jones, regatta organizer and coach extraordinaire for his guidance and cheer-leading all day long.
22 teams is the largest HS event ever hosted in Ohio, which I'm sure will be broken next weekend at Foundry 1!
