Arnold Brown Regatta

Summary

Saturday, September 28:

Well, not exactly the forecasted 8-15 knots, but a beautiful September day none-the-less.

After a few minor hiccups, and last-minute repairs the first race got under way around 1045 with 8-10 south-southwest winds which quickly went right and built to 12-18 with gusts to 25. Everyone handled themselves well with only a few capsizes. Through all the breakdowns we only managed 7 races in each division but everyone was working hard to keep the racing going. A few protests, breakdowns and capsizes kept things interesting. It was close racing all day on W-4’s and W-3’s but somehow the MVRHS hosts managed to squeak out the win by 2pts, it’s the first time the Vineyard has won the Arnold Brown since 2008. Congratulations!

And now the love:

Huge, huge thanks to the Boosters and team parents for the awesome food. A big thanks to MVRHS varsity sailors Henry, Zach, Miles and Trent who were instrumental in helping me on the water, you saved the day.

Thanks also goes out to Chris Crane and Brent Jensen for heading up any filed protests/breakdown requests, some impromptu boat repairs and perhaps a random capsize rescue.

And last, but not least, to my coaching cohort, Andrew Nutton, who kept things organized on shore but unfortunately spent most of the day fixing 420s ☹

Cheers to everyone for making the trip, especially the long drive teams, Champlain Valley, Portland, Burlington, and Lincoln Academy.

That’s a wrap. Thanks AB

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
