MDISA Team Race 1

Sunday dawned without the pleasant southerly we enjoyed at the JV event on Saturday. Only 7 teams arrived on scene for this team race event, but that gave us the certainty of completing a round robin in the uncertain conditions. A forecasted north breeze was forestalled by a west wind which lasted just long enough for race committee to set the course. After shifting to accommodate the new north breeze, races began rolling fairly quickly. At times in the light breeze, "crash" helped to speed up the rotations by towing boats into and out of the rotation beach. Around race 17, we felt the effects of a new northeast direction to the wind, and had to take a quick break from racing to do a 90-degree course reset. Fortunately, the wind sensed Race Committee was getting bored and quickly reversed direction to the west again, just in time for the final four sail off. After resetting the course for the third time in the day, the last six races for final four standings were completed and the regatta concluded almost exactly at 1600. Thanks to coaches Kellen from SSA and Abby from DC Sail for jumping in to serve as umpires throughout the day, and thanks as well to all sailors, who competed cleanly and allowed said umpires to throw a minimum number of flags during that time!

Extra shout out: thanks to Dusty and Sterling Maggard for manning the finish boat all day. Sterling's planning to take the racing world by storm someday, so watch out for him on the course pretty soon!
