Port Townsend Open Fleet Race

Summary

Saturday, October 12:

11 teams from 5 different high schools arrived in Port Townsend to race FJs today at the Northwest Maritime Center.

After a 1-hour period of light, fluky wind, a north-northwest breeze filled in and provided 5-11 knots the rest of the day. This was enough to run 12 windward-leeward races. Though the wind was fairly consistent, there were still some wind shifts, sometimes by as much as 20 or 30 degrees. Those shifts and a steady half-knot current made things challenging for the sailors at times.

Bainbridge 1 dominated the fleet with a total score of 17; out of the 12 races, they had 9 firsts! Bainbridge 2 was second with a score of 45, followed by Port Townsend in third place with a score of 47. Full scores are available on the scores.hssailing.org website.

Thanks to all the volunteers, parents, and sailors, and to the Northwest Maritime Center, for another nice regatta in Port Townsend!

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
