Shepherd Championship

Summary

Saturday, November 9:

15 to 20kts gusts and a shifty South to Southwest wind made it tricky for the 17-team competing in this year’s 2019 MISSA Shepherd Championship hosted by Columbia Sailing School and Columbia Yacht Club. Within the two divisions, the A teams completed 3 Sets, and the B’s teams completed 2 sets ending a long beautiful sunny November day on Columbia Bay, aka Monroe Harbor.

Sunday, November 10:

A contrast from Saturday’s racing, little to no sun, and winds slightly lighter from the North, shifting Northeast still brought the puzzling condition to most of the sailors. As they figure out, the oscillating patterns, racing got a little tighter and they sailed up to the cutoff time. After some redress hearings and a couple of protest hearings, everything was settled, and awards were given out to the teams.

This year Shepard Championships was unique in that it was run in conjunction with the Great Lakes Championships hosted by Chicago Yacht Club. Both Championships were run on the same course, sending the sailors out on a trapezoid allowing mostly flawless racing for the Sailors. We can’t express thanks enough to the Chicago Yacht Club and Columbia Yacht Club race management teams for partnering and running such a well-organized event.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
