Nine teams from six NJ high schools were met with a beautiful fall day for the Turkey Bowl Invitational Regatta on Raritan Bay. The wind forecast was less encouraging however, with expected breeze of 5 knots or less out of the north to northeast. Thankfully all of the wind forecasts were wrong. By the time the fleet headed out to the racecourse the breeze had swung around to the east and settled in at about 7 knots and built further in the afternoon. Although the breeze was shifty, it provided for some great sailing and the race committee was able to easily get 6 races completed in each division.
Southern Regional High School dominated the regatta with eight bullets and four 2nd place finishes out of the twelve races completed. SRHS won the regatta with 16 points and won both the A and B fleets individually. The battle for second place was very tight. At various times during the day Oak Knoll, Summit-1 and Christian Brothers Academy each held the second place position. In the end it came down to the last race and a one point differential in the final scores. CBA finished in the second place position with 35 points and the Summit-1 team placed third with 36 points. Oak Knoll finished in 4th place with 49 points rounding out the top four positions.
This was the last regatta of the season for most NJ teams and a great way to end. We look forward to seeing everyone in the spring.
