On the water at 2:00 with a light ESE breeze, seven Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools (TCIS) teams met for their annual competition moving the course up the Lafayette River to the east side of the Hampton Blvd.Bridge to catch what breeze they could. Wind built throughout the afternoon to SE 7-12 mph with gusts higher for some solid races towards sunset. Skies were partly cloudy and seas about 6".
Teams completed 8 W-4 races in a single division with each school racing three boats. Hampton Roads Academy Team 1 took first place, followed by Norfolk Academy Team 1 in second place and Norfolk Collegiate Team 2 in third place.
Note is taken of the runaway first place boat performance by skipper Niccolo Nadermo and crew Justus Kaminski, foreign exchange students from Italy and Germany respectively, sailing for Hampton Roads Academy. After a couple of warm up races, these two sailors consistently dusted the fleet during this event.
The TCIS format adds the scores from the three schools boats together for a final Team score. The first place school was Norfolk Academy with a composite score of 133 points, followed by Norfolk Collegiate School in second place with 154 points, and Hampton Roads Academy in third place with 227 points.
